Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has explained why he leads as the most followed African artist. He attributes his huge social media following to being open-minded and engaging freely with fans.
According to the report, Davido stated that he shows a relaxed and genuine version of himself online. Also added that many fellow African artists hesitate to reveal their true selves on social platforms.
He declared, “I’m the most-followed African artist across social media because I’m free with my fans.”
At the start of his career, he shared vlogs to show his daily life. Many Nigerian and African musicians reportedly fear being authentic online. Davido feels his openness sets him apart from others.
Living in America, he said, helped expand his mindset. He, however, clarified that he does not judge others but observed how some artists present themselves.
“Some artists won’t take pictures in shorts and slippers at home. I do,” he said.
He feels comfortable showing both his casual and party sides. When it’s time to celebrate, Davido promises he knows how to turn up.
Returning to Nigeria, Davido noticed many celebrities tend to overthink their social media presence. He prefers a chill, go-with-the-flow attitude.
He believes this relaxed approach appeals more to fans. This attitude, he says, is a key reason for his wide social media reach.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Davido’s style contrasts with artists who try too hard to present polished or calculated images. Those artists try to impress their followers with everything, including things above their means.
