Nigerian comedian and actor Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has addressed criticism over his political stance.

On May 27, 2025, Mr. Macaroni took to his X account to defend his Yoruba identity despite not supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated clearly that refusing to support APC does not make him any less Yoruba.

He emphasized that his ancestry is authentic and can be traced through generations. And also stated that his Yoruba heritage should never be linked to any political party.

In his view, Yoruba culture is bigger than politics and should be treated with respect.

Noted that, his remarks were made in response to those who have questioned his ethnic roots due to his political beliefs.

He said Yoruba people existed long before political parties emerged in Nigeria. According to him, Yoruba culture will continue to flourish even after current political structures are gone.

Mr. Macaroni stated that no one has the right to question his cultural identity because of his political opinions.

He declared that he is proud of his Yoruba roots and added that those questioning his background are misrepresenting the true essence of Yoruba heritage.

In his words, his heritage is firm and verifiable, unlike those he accused of wearing a false ethnic identity for political gain.

Speaking further, Mr. Macaroni accused some individuals of trying to enslave Yoruba culture to partisan interests.

He insisted that no political party, including APC, defines what it means to be Yoruba. Therefore, he urged people to freely support any political party but warned them not to impose such affiliations on cultural identity.

He tweeted, “Finally, I AM A PROUD YORUBA BOY!!!

My ancestry is solid and traceable!!! Something most of you masquerading as Yoruba cannot say!

“The shame is on those of you who have decided to politicize the Yoruba culture! The Yoruba heritage will never be enslaved to politics because before APC or any other political party in Nigeria, Yoruba has been and will continue to be even after!

“So please feel free to support APC or any other political party of your choice,” he said.

“Do not tell me I am not Yoruba enough because I don’t support APC.

“APC IS NOT YORUBA AND YORUBA IS NOT APC!!! END OF DISCUSSION!”
