It was a tragic incident in the Gbagi area of Ibadan as a student, reportedly on his father’s bike was shot and killed by a yet-to-be-identified police officer. The student was said to be going to his examination centre when the incident happened.

According to the report, the young boy was on a bike with his sibling and his father when the bullet hit him. He was subsequently rushed to Welfare Hospital but was pronounced dead at the facility. It was gathered that the incident led to massive protests as residents showed their displeasure with the incident.

Daily Post reported that angry residents stormed the government secretariat at Agodi area of the town with the dead body. The protesters demanded to see the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in their quest to seek justice for the deceased.

In his words, the President of Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI), Comrade Yemi Bello condemned the incident. He called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate and fish out the officers involved.

He said, “Dear IGP and stakeholders, kindly investigate the above case alleged that a man was taking his children to school this morning and some alleged police officers and OYRTMA, while casing Yahoo boys, and others said while chasing traffic law offenders, started shooting indiscriminately and bullet hit this little boy and killed him.

“According to the report, it was confirmed that the officers conducted themselves unprofessionally,” he said. He added that this “led to the death of this little boy whose father said he has been taking care of them and refused to remarry since their mother left 7 years ago.”
