What was discussed as President Tinubu meets Peter Obi and Kayode Fayemi in Rome.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, met with Obi and Dr. Fayemi at Pope Leo XIV’s installation mass in Rome. The Nigerian politicians were among the prominent people invited to the event.

During the service, President Tinubu was seen exchanging greetings with Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party during the 2023 election. He was also seen with former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Reacting to the viral picture of the politicians, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, revealed what was discussed.

According to him, Fayemi sighted Tinubu and then urged Obi to follow him to greet the Nigerian President.

He claimed that the former Minister welcomed Tinubu to the event. The President, however, said he would be the one to welcome him and Obi because he was the leader of Nigerian delegates.

“Fayemi sighted President Tinubu, where he sat with other leaders and asked Obi to follow him to pay homage to the Nigerian leader. Obi agreed,” Onanuga revealed in a post on his social media page.

Speaking further, he said that on getting to the President, Fayemi broke the ice between Obi and Tinubu.

According to him, Fayemi said: “Mr. President, welcome to our church, and thank you for honouring the Pope with your presence.

“President Tinubu, ever quick-witted, responded: ‘I should be the one welcoming you and Peter. I’m the Head of the Nigerian Delegation.”

Onanuga added that “the President’s response cracked up Obi, who agreed with the President.

“Obi said: ‘Yes, indeed. We are members of your delegation’,” the Special Adviser narrated.

CityNews Nigeria earlier reported that President Tinubu, while speaking after the event, promised to promote world peace and progress.

According to the Nigerian President, his government will continue to support global peace which Pope Leo XIV always stands for.
