Ahead of the summer transfer window, a former Chelsea player praises Victor Osimhen amid the speculations regarding his next club.
Chelsea Chronicle reports that John Obi Mikel has weighed in on the mounting speculation surrounding the club’s interest in Nigerian striker. He said he believes the forward is well-suited for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Obi, who won many trophies with the Blues, said the decision to sign the striker rests entirely with the club.
Speaking during an episode of the Obi One Podcast, Mikel praises Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker moved to the club from Napoli and has been turning heads with his performances in the Süper Lig.
The striker’s consistent goalscoring form has made him one of the most talked-about players in European football. He has been attracting interest from several top-tier clubs, including Chelsea.
Describing what sets Osimhen apart, Mikel pointed to the striker’s attitude and approach to the game. He claimed that these are critical traits that make him Premier League material.
“His hunger when he plays, the ambition when he plays is something that few players have,” he said. He added that “the arrogance he has, the feistiness he has that you need to be able to succeed in the Premier League as a top striker.”
Mikel, who spent over a decade at Chelsea, believes that Osimhen has what it takes to play in England. And also thrives in the demanding and physical environment of the Premier League.
In addition to his individual qualities, Mikel highlighted Osimhen’s potential to enhance Chelsea’s existing attacking lineup.
“For me, I can see a great partnership happening,” he said, suggesting that the addition of Osimhen could create synergy within the team’s frontline, which has lacked a consistent goal scorer in recent seasons.
Mikel’s support for Osimhen comes at a time when the club is in urgent need of attacking reinforcements.
Yet, despite his glowing endorsement, the former Super Eagle captain was quick to acknowledge that he has no role in the decision-making process and that the ball is now in Chelsea’s court.
“I’ve said what I have to say, I’ve done my part. If the club chose not to pursue it, fair enough. The player has so many options. Good luck to him, good luck to Chelsea. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen,” he stated.
