Senator Shehu Sani, former lawmaker for Kaduna South senatorial district, has accused former Kaduna and Rivers State governors, Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, of causing hunger and banditry in Nigeria.
He stated that the two have no moral right to criticise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said they are part of then people causing economic hardships and insecurity in the country.
Sani expressed these views in a Facebook post on Thursday. The former Senator strongly rebuked the ex-governors for their hypocrisy and political selfishness.
According to Sani, El-Rufai and Amaechi are responsible for the issues of banditry and hunger during their time in power. He emphasized that while they are now criticising Tinubu’s policies on poverty and hunger, they were the ones who failed to address these problems during their own tenure.
He wrote, “El-Rufai and Amaechi should bow their heads in shame. They are the architects of the banditry, poverty, and hunger they now pretend to lament.”
Sani went on to say that while it is not wrong to criticise the government, doing so out of personal disappointment rather than genuine concern is harmful.
He dismissed the coalition being promoted by El-Rufai and Amaechi as “dead on arrival,” stating that they lack the capacity to defeat Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The former lawmaker also directed his criticism towards other former officials of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, particularly those from the northern region.
He accused them of undermining the current government after failing to secure appointments in Tinubu’s cabinet.
He stated, “These individuals controlled the country’s affairs for eight years. They had the power, resources, and influence to transform the North into a socio-economic model, but they left it in worse condition.”
Sani’s comments have sparked a debate over the role of past leaders in Nigeria’s current challenges. He believes that those who held power in previous administrations, including El-Rufai and Amaechi, played a significant part in creating the very problems they now lament.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Senator Shehu Sani added fuel to the ongoing political discourse in Nigeria, particularly regarding the responsibility of past leaders in the nation’s struggles with insecurity and economic difficulties.
City News earlier reported that Romiti Amaechi replied those who criticised his ‘i am hungry’ statement. In his reaction, he said he would not join issue with children
